Viet Nam is constantly trying to improve its investment environment and welcomes all foreign investors including those from Japan, President Truong Tan Sang told a visiting delegation yesterday.

Head of the visiting delegation, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Koya Nishikawa, told the president that Japan expected Viet Nam to continue simplifying investment procedures to encourage Japanese enterprises to increase investments in the country.

Japan and Viet Nam have co-operated closely in many fields, especially in agricultural and rural areas, he said.


"Numerous models and projects have been successfully implemented in Viet Nam," the minister said. "To strengthen co-operation in agriculture and fisheries, Japan seeks to help Viet Nam build infrastructure for the seafood indus and improve irrigation co-operation.

"Japan would like to work with Viet Nam to effectively prevent bird flu and is ready to assign specialists to co-operate with Vietnamese counterparts in studying bird flu prevention."

President Sang spoke highly of Japan's water-saving irrigation technologies and stated that Viet Nam was prepared to co-operate with Japan in this field.

"Viet Nam would like to thank Japan for assisting Vietnamese fishermen in Binh Dinh Province with tuna-catching and processing techniques that increase economic efficiency," he said.

Sang hoped that Japan would continue transferring the techniques to fishermen in other key cities and provinces.

"On the basis of this fine co-operation, I expect the two sides to expand co-operation in farming and aquaculture to increase the productivity and quality of Vietnamese products," Sang said.

He stressed that Viet Nam and Japan had effectively worked out agreements at both governmental and lower levels and expressed conviction that, by combining the industriousness and creativity of Vietnamese people and technical and technological assistance from Japan, Viet Nam would witness new breakthroughs in agriculture as well as other fields.
