President Truong Tan Sang yesterday said he believed Laos and Viet Nam would continue to co-operate for the prosperity and development of both countries as well as the region.

Sang was speaking at a meeting in Ha Noi with the Lao Minister of National Defence, Sengnuon Saynhalat.
The Lao leader is on a visit to Viet Nam until Saturday at the invitation of Vietnamese Minister of Defence, General Phung Quang Thanh.
He said he applauded the modernisation of the Viet Nam People's Army.

The Lao defence leader thanked Viet Nam for supporting his country during its struggle for independence and the ongoing process of national-building. He pledge to do his utmost to promote the friendship and co-operation between Viet Nam and Laos.
President Sang congratulated Sengnuon Saynhalat on his appointment as defence minister, asking him to contribute to the development of the partnership between the two countries.
He said the two sides should implement signed agreements at an early date and also boost the exchange of high-ranking delegations.
At an earlier meeting, General Thanh and his Lao counterpart compared notes on regional and global issues, reviewed the outcome of co-operation so far, and proposed measures to promote defence ties.
