President Truong Tan Sang farewelled outgoing US Ambassador David Shear in Ha Noi yesterday. He praised the ambassador's mission, which he said had contributed significantly to developing relations between the two countries.
President Sang also expressed his pleasure at the growing diplomatic and trade ties between Viet Nam and the US during the past 20 years. He also proposed that the two countries maintain exchanges of high-level delegations.

The President invited President Barack Obama to visit Viet Nam to mark the 20th anniversary of the normalisation of diplomatic ties next year.
He said investment co-operation between the two countries would flourish without facing any barriers.
He also suggested that the US continue assisting Viet Nam in bomb and mine clearance.
Shear thanked the Vietnamese for their support during his operation in Viet Nam .
As Defence Secretary Assistant when he returns to the US, Shear said he would continue to promote relations between the two countries.
The ambassador also said that the Boeing Company and Vietnam Airlines were stepping up their cooperation in a bid to launch direct flights between Viet Nam and the US to mark the anniversary of diplomatic ties.
