Taiwanese leader Ma Ying-jeou's visit to Ba Binh island in Viet Nam's Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago yesterday gravely violates Viet Nam's sovereignty and runs counter to Taiwan's recent statements on maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea (East Sea), Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh said.

"Once again, Viet Nam confirms that it has a full legal foundation and historical evidence asserting its indisputable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes," Binh said.
Viet Nam resolutely opposes the actions and requests that Taiwan immediately end its violations of Viet Nam's sovereignty as well as refrain from repeating similar actions, which accelerates tensions and complicates the situation in the East Sea, he added.
