So said Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Le Hoang Quan and Izumiotsu Mayor Haruhiko Ito during their meeting in the Vietnamese city on October 21.
HCM City always regards seaport development investment as one of the priorities in its economic development, Quan said, adding that the local seaport system now can handle 75 million tonnes of cargo per year and its capacity is expected to increase in the time to come.

Meanwhile, Izumiotsu's seaports hold an important position in Kansai region, which is a favourable condition for the two cities to step up their cooperation in the field, he noted.
Sharing views with Quan, Haruhiko Ito said that his city boasts a large seaport which will be developed into a goods transit centre in Japan .
Therefore, efforts to promote seaport cooperation with HCM City will contribute to bring bilateral ties farther, he added.
Both sides agreed that besides seaport, they can increase collaboration in other fields such as socio-economy, culture, education and training
