US contractor Cisco Systems, Inc. has been engaged to conduct a feasibility study and develop a plan for the acquisition and implementation of information and communications technologies for the control centre for the HCM City's metro rail system.
In line with the Transport Plan for the HCM City until 2020, this activity will help the city to design, construct, implement and operate eight metro lines, along with tramways and monorail systems.
The efforts will assist HCM City with a fast-growing population to meet the demands of its rapid urbanisation.
The project will be carried out from September to May next year.
Speaking at the press conference, Leocadia Zak, director of the USTDA, said the project was part of USTDA's support efforts to modernise the country's infrastructure.
The USTDA will provide further grants for Viet Nam, basing its support on the country's infrastructure development needs, partnership development and the mutual benefit of the two countries.
Earlier in Ha Noi, USTDA signed a non-refundable grant worth $1.2 million with the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Viet Nam for an automated demand response (ADR) feasibility study and pilot project.
The integration of ADR solutions into Viet Nam's electricity grid will enable utility providers to decrease peak demand by working with customers to either reduce or shift electricity consumption, according to a press release from the USTDA's office in the US.
