VN, Bulgaria target strategic partnership

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his visiting Bulgarian counterpart Plamen Vasilve Oresharski have agreed to step up efforts to lift bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

In talks held yesterday, the two leaders discussed detailed measures to boost bilateral co-operation in all fields.

Dung described Oresharski's official visit to Viet Nam as an important milestone that would strengthen the traditional ties of friendship and multifaceted co-operation in the coming years.

He thanked the people of Bulgaria for supporting Viet Nam in the past and continuing to do so at present.
He said Viet Nam has always attached great importance to developing ties with Bulgaria.

For his part, Oresharski hailed Viet Nam's achievements in recent years said Bulgaria considers Viet Nam an important partner in the region.

Bulgaria will spare no effort to unceasingly develop its relationship with Viet Nam, he added.

The prime ministers greed to enhance bilateral relations in all fields, especially economics, trade, investment, science, education, culture, tourism, security and defence.

They said implementing a new co-operation model will deepen and widen bilateral relations towards establishing a strategic partnership in the future.

They also agreed to facilitate attempts by firms and investors of both countries to find local partners to do business with.

They expressed their pleasure at the close co-ordination between the two countries at international forums and said such links should be strengthened further.

The two leaders said they share the view that disputes in the East Sea should be solved through peaceful means based on international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Dung accepted with pleasure an invitation from Oresharski to pay an official visit to Bulgaria.

After the talks, the two PMs held a joint press briefing and witnessed the signing of a number of documents on bilateral co-operation.

Also yesterday, Party, State and National Assembly leaders hosted separate receptions for Oresharski.

Welcoming the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong described the former's visit as a landmark in the development of traditional friendship and multifaceted co-operation between the two countries.

As it pursues a policy of multilateralisation and diversification, Viet Nam places emphasis on strengthening ties with traditional friends like Bulgaria, Trong said.

Oresharski told the Vietnamese Party leader that his country would spare no effort in accelerating implementation of agreements reached during his visit, substantially boosting bilateral ties, especially in trade and investment.

Bridge to ASEAN

Receiving the Bulgarian PM, President Truong Tan Sang said Viet Nam was willing to act as a bridge for Bulgaria to step up co-operation with ASEAN countries.

He said he believed that a free trade agreement with Europe, expected to be reached late this year, would open up opportunities for both countries to strengthen their economic and trade partnership.

Sang suggested that both sides persist with efforts to make it easier for businesses and investors of either country to do business with each other.

Oresharski reiterated Bulgaria's determination to constantly develop its relationship with Viet Nam.

He said Bulgaria was willing to be a bridge for Viet Nam to boost its affiliation with European countries while intensifying links between businesses of both nations.

In a meeting with NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, the Bulgarian PM said the traditional relations between the two countries would be a sound basis for strengthening development links.

He emphasised that Bulgaria considers Viet Nam a fraternal friend and strategic partner, and would facilitate the development of its ties with the European Union.

The guest informed the host of the results of talks held with PM Dung earlier in the day.

Hung said he believed that the results of the talks would strengthen bilateral and regional connections, enhancing the prestige of both nations.

The Vietnamese parliament will provide strong support to both governments as they worked to take bilateral relations to greater heights, he said.

Hung requested the Bulgarian PM to extend his invitation to leaders of the Bulgarian parliament to attend the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Viet Nam early next year
