The issue of gender equality was clearly stipulated in Viet Nam's Constitution, Minh noted, adding that the country was building and modifying its legal system related to the matter.
It was also implementing action plans to ensure gender equality and the rights of women and girls, he emphasised.
Minh also claimed that women's participation in the political system had improved, which is clearly apparent in the rising number of women deputies in the National Assembly and those in high professional positions.
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka congratulated Viet Nam on its early completion of the UN Millennium Development Goals, including ensuring gender equality and reducing poverty.
She stressed that Viet Nam should share its experiences in social security with other countries as it is a matter of national concern.
She was also optimistic that Viet Nam will continue to support and cooperate closely with the UN women dignitaries in the future.
