Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung has working session with key leaders of Government Inspectorate in Ha Noi.
As Government inspectors are responsible to citizens, they should exert every effort to detect law violations in all sectors and levels, consolidating people's trust in the Party and State, he said.
During the 2011-13 period, the sector conducted nearly 30,000 administrative and more than 430,000 specific inspections, according to Chief Government Inspector Huynh Phong Tranh.
The sector detected violations involving over VND102 trillion (US$4.8 billion) and nearly 300,000 hectares of land, proposing the reclamation of VND60.2 trillion ($2.8 billion) and 14,752 hectares of land as well as punishments for nearly 4,000 collectives and 7,000 individuals.
At the same time, the Government Inspectorate brought to light 319 corruption cases and 526 suspects relating to VND726 billion ($34 million) and 10 hectares of property, as well as strictly dealing with 52 leaders of agencies engaging in fraudulent activities, said Tranh.
During the last three years, the sector settled 360,000 citizen complaints, through which it restored nearly VND2 trillion ($94 million) and 886 hectares of land for citizens, uncovering 2,373 individuals and transferring 400 to investigation forces.
He also pointed out some shortcomings of the sector, such as the long time it took to make an inspection report and the fact that only a few cases have been handed over to investigating agencies.
The official said these issues resulted from inadequate regulations of the Inspection Law as well as the insufficient capacity of many inspectors.
