Tokyo police release VNA flight attendant

Vietnam Airlines announced on Wednesday that the Japanese authorities had released its 25-year-old flight attendant who had been arrested on suspicion of smuggling stolen goods.
In a press release, Vietnam Airlines said flight attendant Nguyen Bich Ngoc was released after being detained for 22 days during the investigation process.
The national carrier added that the Tokyo police informed the Vietnam Airlines office in Japan of Ngoc's release and that she was completing the formalities for returning to Viet Nam.
Ngoc was arrested by the Tokyo police on March 26 on suspicion of transporting stolen clothing worth 125,000 yen, or US$1,223, by bus from a hotel in Osaka Prefecture to the Kansai International Airport last September, at the request of a 30-year-old Vietnamese woman in Japan.
Vietnam Airlines said it would continue to monitor the case and provide the Japanese police with any further information that comes to light.

Vietnam Airlines aircrew are no longer allowed to use large-sized suitcases while they are on duty on international flights, due to a directive apparently intended to improve the carrier's reputation following recent smuggling cases involving its flight attendants.
