National Cup holders Vissai Ninh Binh are on top of Group G in Asia’s second-tier AFC Cup after a 3-2 home win over Yangon United of Myanmar Wednesday.
After a 3-1 away win over Hong Kong club South China on January 26, Ninh Binh players continued to be sharp on home soil.
The visitors from Myanmar were a strong team and created several chances of their own, but the hosts looked better and took the lead after 12 minutes when Brazilian-Vietnamese midfielder Dinh Van Ta scored the opener.
The home team doubled the lead four minutes later from Romanian midfielder PetrisorVoinea’s great finish from close range.
Ten minutes later Yangon United striker Augusto Cezar fired a great shot to pull one back for the visitors, but Ninh Binh made it 3-1 in the final minutes of the first half when Dinh Van Ta scored from the penalty spot after Van Thang was tackled in the penalty area.
Yangon United, who had scored a 5-3 win over Malaysian club Kelantan in the first round, kept attacking in the second half but could only score one goal two minutes from full time when Cezar got his second.
On Tuesday V-League champs Hanoi T&T also scored their second consecutive win in Group F of the AFC Cup with a 3-1 away victory over Indonesian club Arema Malang following their 5-1 home win over Maldivian club Maziya Sports two weeks earlier.
