Pakistan wants to use Vietnam as Davis Cup tennis home venue

Pakistan, who cannot play Davis Cup tennis at home for security reasons, wants to use Da Lat as the ‘home’ venue for their tie against the Philippines in April.
Pakistan beat Vietnam 3-2 in the first round of the Asia/Oceania Davis Cup Group II in Da Lat earlier this month and play the Philippines in the second round for promotion to Group I.

PTF Chairman Syed Kaleem Imam wrote to the Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF), saying: “Since our facilities and security are not as good as required, we can hardly meet the International Tennis Federation’s requirements for organizing the event though we have been given the right to host it.
“Therefore, we would like to choose Da Lat Tennis Court as our home ground to play the Philippines. We hope to receive a reply from the VTF soon so that we can report to the ITF.”
Imam also said he was impressed by the professional organization at Da Lat during the Pakistan tie.
The VTF’s general secretary and vice chairman Nguyen Quoc Ky said the VTF would get in touch with the General Department of Physical Training and Sports and the Da Lat Tennis Court and reply to Pakistan soon.
“VTF are willing to help Pakistan,” Ky said.
“It would be possible for Vietnamese tennis fans to see great performances by … players from Pakistan and the Philippines.”
If Vietnam agree, the Pakistan team will fly to Da Lat a week before their clash and have training sessions with Vietnamese players.
Vietnamese players would benefit from training with the Pakistanis, especially Aisam Qureshi, who is ranked 18th in men’s doubles. Vietnam plays Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6 to remain in Grade 2.
