Party leader Trong receives top Cambodian legislator

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met this morning with President of the Cambodia National Assembly Heng Samrin in Ha Noi.

During their meeting, Trong called for further co-operation between the two countries' assemblies.

Speaking to Heng Samrin, who was leading the Cambodian delegation attending the on-going 132nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Ha Noi, Trong expressed his hope that the two countries' national assemblies would work together to improve the supervision and check on implementation agreements promoting the interests of each country's people, as well as the co-operation and development of the entire region.

Also, Trong thanked the Cambodian National Assembly and Samdech for their active support in Viet Nam's hosting the 132nd IPU General Assembly, saying that the participation of the Cambodian delegation would contribute to the success of the gathering.

Trong also congratulated Cambodia for its significant achievements in recent years, saying he wished for greater development in Cambodia's construction and development sectors.

He also sent best regards to King Norodom Sihamoni, Queen Mother Monineath Sihanouk, and other Cambodian leaders.

In response, Heng Samrin praised and congratulated Viet Nam's many achievements in its doi moi (renewal) process, as well as national construction and defence sectors.

He also praised and offered his congratulations on Viet Nam's organisation of the 132nd IPU General Assembly, saying the gathering would be a considerable success and actively contribute to reaching IPU's common targets.

Further, Heng Samrin thanked the Vietnamese party and people for the significant assistance offered to Cambodia during its national independence drive, helping the Cambodian people to escape from genocide, as well as providing assistance in Cambodia's ongoing national construction programs
