Viet Nam-UK ties make great strides

Outgoing British Ambassador to Viet Nam Antony Stokes said, in Ha Noi yesterday, that the two countries had enjoyed strong development in all fields.

He made this comment during a farewell for him hosted by President Truong Tan Sang.

The diplomat said the strategic partnership allowed both countries to make productive connections in trade, science and technology and counter crime. He expressed the hope that the ties would grow stronger to generate bilateral, regional and global benefits.


He held out hope that both sides would step up education cooperation, especially the establishment of the Viet Nam-UK University in central Da Nang city. He mentioned the British Council's provision of numerous scholarships to Vietnamese students and projects targeting children.

Meanwhile, President Sang told his guest that Viet Nam had always kept in mind the support and assistance of international friends in national development.

He affirmed that Viet Nam always yearned for peace and works to be a reliable partner of all countries across the world.

He agreed with Stokes that more policies needed to be created to provide a prerequisite for the development of young generations.

President Sang was confident that the relations between the two countries would make great strides in the future.
