Int'l seminar to recall Dien Bien Phu victory

An international seminar will be held in Ha Noi on May 5 to gain a better insight into the Dien Bien Phu victory of May 7, 1954, which ended the French colonial rule in Viet Nam.

Nguyen Van Nhat, Director of the Institute of History under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, said on April 29 that the function will be attended by some 200 researchers from Viet Nam, Russia, the US, France, China and Laos.

He added that the seminar will highlight the strong and creative leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and President Ho Chi Minh in the Dien Bien Phu battle, which demonstrated the determination and spirit of the Vietnamese armed forces and people.

By underlining the significance of the victory, the event also aims to boost national pride in each Vietnamese citizen, he noted.

The Dien Bien Phu campaign played a decisive role in ending Viet Nam's resistance war against the French and bringing new momentum to Viet Nam's revolution and the struggle for peace, national independence and socialism.
