Le Van Duan and Nguyen Thi That won the individual time trial first stage of the Return to Dien Bien Cycling Tournament on May 1 in Ha Noi.
Duan of Suntek Sao Viet HCM City won the men's 15-lap first stage around the Hoan Kiem Lake with 18 points, after he finished first in the third, sixth and ninth laps and came second in the 12th.

Nguyen Thanh Tam of An Giang Plant Protection ranked second with nine points, followed by Do Tuan Anh from Domesco Dong Thap Pharmacy, with eight points.
On the women's side, That of Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang had no rival when she sprinted to win the 12th, 15th and 18th laps, earning 15 points.
With as many points as That, Vo Thi Phuong Phi of Binh Duong Environment and Water Supply and Drainage came second as she crossed the finishing line a few seconds after That.
Nguyen Thi Thanh of Co May Dong Thap secured the third place.
The second stage tomorrow (May 2) will see the cyclists racing from Ha Noi to Hoa Binh Province, with the men covering 124 kilometres and the women 120 kilometres.
Seventy men from 11 teams and 40 women from eight teams from across the nation and three foreign clubs are participating in the tournament.
They will compete in six stages, going through Ha Noi, Hoa Binh, Son La and Dien Bien. The event, which ends on May 6 in Dien Bien Phu City, aims to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory over the French colonialists.
