This was revealed by Deputy Minister of Defence Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh during a Ha Noi reception for a US Department of State delegation, led by Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Wendy Sherman, on Monday.
General Vinh said Viet Nam valued its co-operation with the US , especially in the defence-security area.
He suggested more exchanges be held on strategic defence, bomb and mine clearances, maritime security and the exchange of war memorabilia.
Sherman said she hoped the navies of the two countries would hold more exchanges in the future.
She expected the forces would work together in experimenting with different modes of search and rescue operation and setting up a hotline to keep each other promptly updated with any arising maritime security issues.
