In the quarter-final matches, Viet Nam's Cuong defeated Hyung-Kon Kim of the host country 40-35 in 22, while three other Vietnamese players were beaten by South Korean rivals.
Vietnamese player Ma Xuan Cuong will face three Koreans in the final round of the seventh Asian Three-Cushion Billiards Championship.
Tran Quyet Chien, who is among the top 12 players, survived the battle against compatriot Ngo Dinh Nai (40-31 in 18), but was beaten by Choong-Bok Lee in the quarter-final 40-22 in 13. Former four-time junior world champion HaengJik Kim beat Nguyen Duy Trung 40-33 in 27, and Chi-Yeon Cho beat Duong Anh Vu 40-39 in 22.
Eleven Vietnamese players are taking part in the tournament, which also serves as a qualification tournament for the 2015 Three-Cushion World Cup, slated to take place in HCM City later this year.
Viet Nam won two bronze medals at the Asian Three-Cushion Billiards Championship held in HCM City last year.
