A concert of five young Italian artists who perform only with their voices, without using any musical instruments, will be held at the Casa Italia on Monday.
The orchestra of Mezzotono proposes a rich repertoire, which offers a journey through a variety of different styles. Spanning from jazz to bossa nova, along mambo, tango, big-band style and classic music, all the songs are performed in an original interpretation by virtue of the arrangements and the unpredictable contribution of the rhythmic-vocal section.
A concert by five young Italian artists who make music without using any musical instruments will be held in Ha Noi on Monday
The peculiar feature of this technique, so-called "a cappella", implies that the human voices reproduce the different instruments, according to a special kind of approach by the five interpreters.
The unique atmosphere will encourage the audience to actively participate in the show, becoming a part of the orchestra itself.
Mezzotono has been presenting its music in several Italian and foreign theatres around the world, and the artists have been holding seminars and master classes in universities all around the world focusing on the "a cappella" musical technique.
In October 2008, the group was selected as one of the ten best troupes in Italy and was invited to the launch of a CD A-Cappella Made in Italy.
In Ha Noi's concert, the troupe will perform some famous Italian songs, including Quando quando quando (Tony Renis), Un uomo in frack (Domenico Modugno) and Buonasera Signorina (Fred Buscaglione) as well as some works composed by the Mezzotono such as Only Voices and Turnip Tops.
"Mezzotono's performances were delightful," Paul Augustin, director of the Penang Island Jazz Festival, stated during the artists' performance in Penang in 2012.
"A highly entertaining a cappella act, Mezzotono also conducted a very interesting and informative workshop, which the audience enjoyed," he noted.
The concert will be held at 8pm in the Casa Italia, 18 Le Phung Hieu Street, Ha Noi, with the support of the Embassy of Italy in the framework of the Italian-Vietnamese Programme 2014.
